InterNIC
"InterNIC" is a registered service mark of the U.S. Department of Commerce which formerly represented the concept of an Internet Network Information Center. The InterNIC was a service that managaged .com, .net, .org, .edu, and .gov top level domains. The U.S. government contract to perform that service was granted to Network Solutions, Inc. This structure was replaced by ICANN in 1999.
